Introduction and History Despite the fact that I have owned and been involved with horses and ponies since early childhood, The Drogeda Stud was founded in 1978 following the purchase of my first Welsh Cob from the Llanarth Welsh Cob Sale.
The animal which has had the greatest inspiration on our small stud is the late, great Tireinon Spring Song. My abiding memory of her is driving over Pont Lliw, and seeing her in the paddock with her foal at foot. Her influence is manifested through her sons Tireinon Triple Crown and Tireinon Jubilation, granddaughter Tireinon Rosebud, and grandson Danaway Tango.
The purchase of Trefaes Golden Pearl at the
1992 Royal Welsh Cob Sale had a fundamental influence on the
stud. Pearl has only ever been lightly
shown, with successes including Silver and Bronze Welsh Pony
and Cob Society Medals and winning the novice broodmare
class at the 1999 RWAS. More importantly, Pearl has produced
a number of outstanding offspring, including Drogeda Pearly
King (HOYS Winner 2005, Olympia Qualifier 2006 and HOYS
Qualifier 2007), Drogeda
Stormy Tempest (2002 RWAS Youngstock Champion and 2005
Lampeter Stallion Show Premium Winner and Reserve Champion)
and Drogeda Princess Rachel (2004 RWAS winner), in addition
to her other quality offspring which have not yet been
shown. Malcolm Peaty |
